Congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are organized geographically and members attend worship services near their home. The Spokane Valley Stake is bounded by Mt. Spokane on the north, the Idaho border on the east, Mica Peak on the south. The furthest west boundary north of I-90 is Pines Rd and south of I-90 is Sullivan Rd.
As depicted, Mt. Spokane Stake is northwest, Spokane East is southwest, and the Post Falls Idaho Stake is east.
The Spokane Valley Stake is 24 miles (north to south) by 9 miles (west to east) at its widest point.
The populated extent ranges from Mica Peak (south) to the top of Newman Lake (north) and is only 15 miles.
1896: The first missionaries visit Spokane.
1947: The Spokane Stake was organized as the 168th stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
1971: The Spokane East Stake is organized as the second stake in Spokane County.
2001: The Spokane Valley Stake was organized on June 3, 2001, when the Spokane East Stake was divided. Gary G. Ely was called as the first stake president.
2008: Brian L. Pitcher was called as the second stake president on January 6, 2008.
2016: Geoffrey G. Julian was called as the third stake president on June 19, 2016. Two wards (Foothills and West Valley) were moved into the newly organized Mt. Spokane Stake on the same day.
2025: Benjaman R. Brown was called as the fourth stake president on June 1, 2025.
